Pentax today announced its latest DSLR, the K-x<\/a>, a budget-priced camera that is packed with features that are being seen for the first time on a model in this price range. Topping that list is 720p resolution HD video in 24fps cinematic mode, true High Dynamic Range image capture which blends three bracketed images into a single shot for better highlight and shadow detail, and a claimed 1900-shot battery life using AA lithium batteries. Shutter speed tops out at a fast 1\/6000 sec and burst rate is as high as 4.7FPS. <\/span><\/p>\n

Other features include a 2.7-inch, 230,000 dot resolution LCD, an 11-point AF sensor, and a new PRIME II imaging engine, which Pentax claims offers faster image processing speed and more accurate color.Pentax says the K-x has built-in Face detection that can track up to 16 faces, a choice of three focus methods (Contrast AF, Face Detection AF, and Phase Difference AF). There are several creative Digital Filters, such as retro, starburst, toy camera and Color Extract) to create in-camera effects; multiple filters can be applied to a single shot. <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the K-x, Pentax today announced a new lens, the 55-300mm f\/4-5.8 ED, a lightweight supertelephoto model with extra-low-dispersion glass optical elements.The K-x will be available in three different kit configurations: with the 18-55mm lens for $649.95<\/a> in black, red<\/a>, blue<\/a> or white<\/a>, with the 18-55mm and 50-200mm lens for $749.95<\/a>, and with the 18-55mm and 55-300mm lens for $849.95<\/a>. The Pentax K-x will be available in October, and can be pre-ordered now on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/span><\/p>\n
